Itä-Saksa: Das Monument
A monument for mature taste
Itä-Saksa is a Finnish band formed by vocalist Jade Soikkeli and music producer Hiili Hiilesmaa
(HIM, Apocalyptica, The 69 Eyes...). In addition to their own music, they have made couple of underground space movies too. The group was an operative band in Finnish underground scene in early 2000.
The rumour has it: A new album by itä-saksa, Das Monument, will be published after eventful and at times chaotic sessions. The release has been compared with the launch of Apollo 7 which was the first manned mission to space. Previous itä-saksa album was published more than 16 years ago. As the Apollo-program also Das Monument ends an era – with great success!
The previous albums’ psycho boogie with pinch of techno and metal has transformed into more electronic and surreal soundscape. The album has been recorded in Finland and Belgium in the studios of experimental artist Timo van Luijk. The birth process of the music has been lengthy, surprising and even painful.
However, the baby is now born and Das Monument could be considered as one of the most beautiful albums of recent years. It is discreet and profound but danceable.
An era of introversion may be coming to an end and itä-saksa has stated that “we consider embracing people again”.
